Drum roll please! The Opera in the Park Concert is back. Yes, and it is free and everyone is welcome!
Enjoy Virginia Opera's singers perform some of the most delightful ear candy in your Bermudas and flip flops at Town Point Park in Norfolk, Va at the 2nd Annual Opera in the Park Concert . Virginia Opera's very own Artistic Director Peter Mark and WHRO-FM's Program Director Dwight Davis are Masters of the Ceremony for the concert, which begins at 6:00 p.m. Joining the gentlemen on stage will be local favorite Hope Milahap.
Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to picnic on the lawn beginning at 3:00 p.m. Guests may purchase food, soft drinks and adult/alcoholic beverages throughout the evening or may bring their own picnic baskets filled with food and non-alcoholic beverages.
In honor of our military community and families, the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command Band (TRADOC) will join us for the wonderful event at 5:00 p.m. The Training and Doctrine Command Band is currently under the command and direction of Captain Scott McKenzie, he is assisted by his Executive Officer and Associate Conductor 1st Lieutenant Richard Winkels, and Enlisted Bandleader Sergeant Major Wendy Thomson. The United States Army Training and Doctrine Command Band of Fort Monroe, Virginia represents the dramatic evolution of Army bands dating back to Ethan Allen’s “Green Mountain Boys” in 1775. Today, the TRADOC Band serves as an outreach asset for the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, headquartered at Fort Monroe. Each of the 63 Soldiers assigned to the band passed a highly selective audition and are among the finest musicians in the United States Army band program.
